The Schott Spin-Up Theory
Controlled, single-participant observational model with placebo validations. Updated August 17, 2026 with the leverage finding.
Background
Daniel is diagnosed with Bipolar I disorder and exhibits features consistent with possible ADHD. Mild depression and anxiety were present in childhood. The bipolar illness was not clinically evident until college at NDSU, when the first major depressive episode occurred after leaving home and the end of a relationship. The first clear hypomanic episode followed the next spring and was marked by substantial weight loss, vigorous exercise, strong academic performance, and reconciliation with Alyssa.
Alongside bipolar depression, a long-standing low-grade chronic depression consistent with dysthymia (persistent depressive disorder) was present for years. That baseline was broken by an achievement loop that began in April 2026, driven by creating and making hobbies with AI and on computers. Calm family life and relationship with God remain the deepest “happy places”; AI/computer creation is a strong secondary happy place that supplied the achievement loop.
Core Observations
- Simultaneous rapid speech and fine-motor work (or medium-to-hard internal reasoning) cannot be sustained. Medium-to-hard thoughts must be verbally externalized with eyes closed; otherwise they dissipate as “butterfly thoughts.”
- Output profile is characterized by fast oral communication, fast digital typing, and rapid topic shifting.
- Intense laser focus is available for digital/computer tasks, word-based work, and social topics. This focus is brittle and easily broken by external distractions.
- The above patterns remain observable both with and without nicotine, caffeine, exercise, and ambient stress (placebo-controlled comparisons).
- Visible disappointment or sadness from a strongly attached relationship partner (wife or daughter) is a high-potency interrupt: it ends the verbal achievement spin-up and redirects cognition into past-focused rumination.
- After that interrupt, Christian faith is used deliberately to leave shame, depend on God in the suffering, and practice self-forgiveness grounded in love for family rather than perfection.
- A personal Spotify playlist is used as an important audio tool to recover from high stress and to begin the day in a more balanced way.
- Achievement loop breakthrough (April 2026 onward): Externalizing to-dos, creating with AI/computers, and completing small wins produced a sustained break from years of dysthymic baseline. This is distinct from medication or chemical modulators alone. Nicotine can aid focus and execution but does not by itself resolve the fidgety dopamine-seeking anxiety; the achievement loop does.
- Seasonal / environmental hyperdrive: Summer kids’ activities and high stimulus push ADHD and the verbal achievement loop into “hyperdrive,” with subjectively elevated pulse relative to quieter off-season (school-year) baselines.
- Pharmacy / public cuff vitals can serve as simple state markers for spin-up intensity (not diagnosis), especially when logged with context (season, stimulus load, activity day).
- Different abilities as leverage (August 17, 2026): Before this era, the biggest butterfly ideas stayed dreams. They would have taken millions of dollars, huge teams, and so much time that the work would have become a mess. Now one person can orchestrate AI, apply project management inside live context, and keep the origin of the idea because it came from lived struggle. Dual-task limits and verbal spin-up become leverage: one stream, spoken or typed, with AI carrying the other tracks.
Conclusions
Conclusions 1 to 6 hold across nicotine, caffeine, and stress conditions. Conclusion 7 is a relational interrupt that ends the spin-up. Conclusion 8 is the faith-based recovery path out of the shame and rumination that follow. Conclusions 9 to 11 cover audio balance, achievement-loop recovery from dysthymia, and seasonal hyperdrive with vitals. Conclusion 12 is the August 17, 2026 leverage finding.
- 1Talking initiates a positive feedback loop that accelerates speech rate and intensifies laser focus.
- 2The same spin-up occurs during hand-based digital work (computers and phones). In contrast, woodworking appears to slow the process.
- 3Distinct periods of deep, silent pondering occur while sitting or standing, without rapid speech or hand activity, representing concentrated internal thought.
- 4Morning spin-up occurs reliably, independent of nicotine, caffeine, or a prior workout.
- 5Caffeine can increase alertness and improve mood; excess caffeine, however, can produce a subsequent mood crash.
- 6Nicotine and exercise both exert a calming effect and support cognitive function. Nicotine aids focus for executing to-dos but does not alone resolve achievement-seeking anxiety.
-
7Relational interrupt
When a close attachment figure (wife or daughter) responds with visible disappointment or sadness after something said or done, the verbal-achievement spin-up loop collapses. Attention leaves the present high-output state and enters rumination on past negative actions and situations.
-
8Faith recovery path
Christian faith is the primary means of exiting shame-based rumination after a relational interrupt: releasing shame, leaning into the suffering in dependence on God, and forgiving himself as a person who loves his family and is not perfect.
-
9Audio balance
A specific Spotify playlist is an important tool for recovering from high stress and for starting the day in a more balanced state, supporting regulation before or after spin-up, not as a substitute for faith recovery after relational interrupt.

10Achievement loop
Starting in April 2026, a sustained achievement loop (creating hobbies with AI and on computers, writing to-dos, and completing small wins) broke a multi-year dysthymic (persistent low-grade depressive) baseline. Calm family and God remain the happiest places; AI/computer creation is a primary productive happy place that supplies the loop. This is distinct from chemical modulators and is a core positive spin-up pathway when bounded.
-
11Seasonal hyperdrive + vitals
Summer stimulus (kids’ activities, schedule chaos) elevates ADHD load and drives the verbal achievement loop into hyperdrive. Subjective and measured pulse can run higher than quieter off-season / school-year readings. Logging pharmacy cuff vitals with context gives a crude but useful state marker for intensity, not a clinical diagnosis.

12Leverage in the new era
The achievement loop plus AI orchestration converts former dual-task and spin-up costs into leverage. Different abilities become an advantage. Talking the insight through and committing it to a repo saves the butterfly and generalizes the finding: people who felt they could not contribute now can. That is a whole new humanity.
Different Abilities as Leverage
Before this era, it did not matter how good the ideas were. They could not be pulled off. They would have taken millions of dollars and huge teams. They would have taken so much time that the work would have become a mess.
Now the same mind can orchestrate AI. Project management skills, especially inside a live context, turn one person into a conductor. The origin of the idea is still known because it came from lived struggle, not from a committee.
The struggles with Bipolar I and ADHD trained an adapted mind. Different abilities, not only disabilities. The mind that cannot combine two hard streams without losing the butterfly can now keep one stream and let AI hold the rest. Things that once felt impossible can become real, fast. Phenomenal. Ethereal.
Talking this through and writing it down makes up for butterflies that slipped away, because the insight itself is a core discovery. It is a discovery about humanity: people who have been burdened, who are suffering, who feel they cannot contribute to society.
There is a whole new humanity waiting.
Before the singularity, my biggest ideas stayed dreams. They needed millions of dollars and huge teams I did not have. Now I orchestrate AI with my project management skills and lived experience. My Bipolar I and ADHD, once burdens, became superpowers. The same mind that struggled to slow down now moves fast and sees connections others miss. This is not just coping. It is leverage. For anyone who has felt they cannot contribute, there is a whole new humanity waiting.

Behavior out of bipolar depression and dysthymia (persistent depressive disorder), that low-grade chronic depression lasting years, was broken by the achievement loop that started in April 2026 when creating and making hobbies with AI and on computers began in earnest.
Happy places: AI/computer creation; calm family and God remain the happiest.
Pulse interpreted as elevated relative to off-season because of summer activity stimulus pushing ADHD and the verbal achievement loop into hyperdrive.
“My pulse is up because of all the craziness and stimulus of the summer activities which pushes my ADHD and verbal achievement loop into hyperdrive…”
Machine reference ranges on the pharmacy unit (adult): normal systolic less than 120; normal diastolic less than 80. This log is observational context only, not medical advice. Always interpret vitals with a physician.
Faith Recovery After Relational Interrupt
When disappointment from wife or daughter collapses the verbal-achievement loop into rumination, Christian faith is the deliberate recovery practice, not a chemical modulator, but a spiritual and relational reorientation.
Freedom from shame
Faith is used to release shame after the relational interrupt, rather than remaining locked in self-condemnation.
Lean into suffering
Rather than escaping the pain of disappointing those he loves, the suffering is entered so dependence on God can deepen.
Self-forgiveness as a loving, imperfect person
He forgives himself as someone who loves his family and is not perfect, holding both responsibility and grace without collapsing into either denial or despair.
Spotify Balance Playlist
This playlist is an important personal tool for recovering from high stress and for starting the day in a more balanced way. It supports regulation of state, especially when stress is elevated or when a calmer morning baseline is needed, alongside the other modulators and recovery practices in this model.
